Lake Tenno

One of Trentino natural jewels, it offers very specific colors and shades. It is one of the cleanest bodies of freshwater in Italy.

Our lake can not be reached by car, but through a path that starts from the square of Canale (ten minute walk). It is suitable for swimming: in summer the water reaches very pleasant temperatures and the beaches have a secure beach service with lifeguards.

Scholars have dated its formation to 1100 AD.

In 1970, divers discovered an old forest of tree trunks beneath the waterline and thanks to the radiocarbon method the death of the trees, and therefore the formation of lake Tenno, was dated to this period.

The valley of Tenno

From the prehistoric age to the dawn of our era the territory of Tenno was a communication route of primary importance with the North Alpine area.

Tenno stands out thanks to its very particular climate, where the climate of the Lake Garda area encounters that of the Alpine hinterland, and thanks to the breathtaking views and the constant surprises offered by the lake, a true spectacle of nature.

The troubled orography of the Tenno area is marked by the River Magnone which with a deep incision through the calcareous rock descends into the Varone waterfall with a drop of 87 meters. Standing broodingly on the summit of a cliff the old castle of Tenno appears to have been built in a strategic position, watching over the entire horizon to bravely protect and defend its precious historical, cultural and environmental heritage.
